Network Security Essentials
This 2-3 hour Cloud Sparks session is a short, interactive guide to securing networks on Google Cloud.
Network Security Essentials covers core network security principles and how they apply with Google Cloud’s managed services. Across five modules, you will look at the shared responsibility model and common configuration pitfalls, and design secure architectures with Cloud NGFW and microsegmentation. You will then explore Cloud Armor against web attacks and bot traffic, Cloud NAT and Private Service Connect for secure private connectivity, and Cloud IDS for detecting malicious activity.
The session also covers analyzing traffic with VPC Flow Logs and Flow Analyzer, securing hybrid connectivity between on-premises and Google Cloud, using VPC Service Controls, and leveraging generative AI to enhance security operations and automation. Learning happens through presentations, demos and discussions with real-world examples.
The course is for cloud network engineers, cloud security engineers and anyone designing, implementing or managing network security on Google Cloud. Participants should be familiar with foundational networking and Google Cloud concepts, and experience with the console and CLI is beneficial. Advanced Security Operations beyond a network security professional’s responsibilities is not covered.
