Understanding Cloud Spanner

In this 3-day course we’re taking a look at Cloud Spanner and when and how to use it for relational databases at scale.

The Understanding Cloud Spanner course introduces Cloud Spanner and how it differs from other database products. Over 6 modules and 10 labs, you cover why Spanner exists, including how it fits the CAP theorem and its use cases, and how to plan and create Spanner instances based on location, capacity, availability and cost, using the console, the Google Cloud CLI and Terraform.

You then move on to optimizing schemas for the Spanner architecture, choosing primary keys, managing relationships with foreign keys and interleaved tables, and programming applications, queries and transactions with the Cloud Spanner API, including integrating Spanner with applications.

The course is aimed at customers building on Google Cloud. Participants should have some prior Google Cloud experience at the fundamental level, plus experience with relational databases, SQL and some programming.
